Are New Year's Resolutions" Wirthy?"

It's getting towards the end of 2014, which means everyone is getting ready for the New Year. During the New Year's festivities, people often attend a final end-of-the-year party, or maybe watch some exciting college football bowl games. But one popular new year's tradition that people take to heart  is to make a new year's resolution.

A lot of Americans make a resolution that they want to achieve within the next year. In fact, according to Statistic Brain, 45 percent of Americans usually make a new year's resolution while 17 percent of Americans infrequently make a resolution. Of the limitless resolutions people make, the top three listed from Statistic Brain includes losing weight, being more organized, and saving more money while spending less.

While it's easy to make a resolution, it's often harder to maintain it. Statistic Brains states that 75 percent of Americans stick with their resolution within the first week, then it drops to 71 percent after the second week. Then it dramatically drops to 64 percent after the first month, and then down to 46 percent after six months.

So with over half of the people quitting after only six months, is it really "Wirthy" to make a resolution? Statistically, the odds are against anyone who does. So it seems like you're setting yourself up to fail.

But, what if you're one of the few who actually follows through with the resolution. Lets take a look at the top three goals again: Losing weight, being more organized and saving more money and spending less. If you lose weight, you can lead to a healthier lifestyle that you may not have had in the past. If you're more organized, it can give you a better sense of direction of where you want to be in life. If you save more and spend less, you can avoid debt and spend your hard earned cash on more important investments.

So is having a new year's resolution "Wirthy?" Well with hard work and dedication, I believe that having a new year's resolution is definitely a "Wirthy" investment.

Thank you for reading, I hope everyone has an amazing New Year's celebration. Stay safe, have fun and see you next time on:
